The band has been called a lot of things. "Three shows in one" might be the favorite. That's how BroadwayWorld set up The British Invasion Years before the Summer Jamfest stop at Centenary Stage Company.
Honestly, it's accurate.
One evening that walks the audience through the whole decade. The Beatles, the Beach Boys, the Monkees on one hand. The Rolling Stones, the Kinks, the Who on the other. A nostalgic ride, as the piece put it, "grooving through some of the world's most famous and well-loved tunes."
The write-up also told the origin story the band keeps coming back to. Every guy in this band knew he wanted to play this music after watching the Beatles' first TV spot on Ed Sullivan in February 1964. Bassist Bobby M. and guitarist Lee Scott Howard connected as session players in 1988 once they realized they'd both seen that same broadcast. And keyboardist Jon Wolf heard a British Invasion group was forming and wanted in. So he dropped hints at sessions. Not subtle ones. He'd launch into Side B of Abbey Road to get their attention. It worked.
BroadwayWorld also caught how the band picks the songs. They go by what sparks something and keeps the room having fun, because this music is built for dredging up old happy memories and making new ones.
That's still how every set comes together. Want the full back-story? It's on the about page. Ready to pick a night? Here are the tour dates.
